Sugar Land was recently given an Operations Excellence Award for increased recycling efforts by the Texas Public Works Association. The city reduced the amount of garbage sent to landfills by thirty-four percent in 2013.

After expanding the city’s solid waste program in 2011 to include regular curbside collections, the amount of materials kept out of landfills has increased every year. The goal is to keep with the trend and reduce the amount of trash placed in landfills even more in 2014.
