Since the mid 90's Houston has been catching up to other major U.S. cities in terms of its commitment to creating and sustaining its green public spaces. Whereas, in the not-so-distant past, meeting up with a friend in the park for an afternoon coffee was not part of the city culture. Houston’s citizens have now grown accustomed to spending leisure time in the city’s various green spaces. Green spaces have begun to play a major role in the city’s intricate social calendar, ranging from outdoor movie screenings to Yoga classes in the park, and from blanket Bingo events to live concerts.
